Russell Brand has been sued in London’s High Court over allegations of sexual abuse. In the first ever known lawsuit brought against the comedian in his home country, an individual reportedly filed a “personal injury sex abuse” case against him on February 6 (via The Sun).Further details of the case are not known, with the claimant remaining anonymous, although it is believed they are claiming damages.A wave of accusations against Brand emerged in September 2023 following an investigation by Channel 4, The Times and The Sunday Times, which saw him accused of multiple counts of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013.He has strongly denied all of the allegations, saying at the time: “Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute”.In November last year, police asked the Crown Prosecution Service to consider bringing criminal charges against Brand.

The case is currently being reviewed. Andy Furphy, Detective Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police, said: “Our investigation continues and a file has now been passed to the CPS.

We have a team of dedicated officers providing specialist support to the women who have come forward. We are committed to investigating sexual offences, no matter how long ago they are alleged to have taken place.”Brand recently confirmed that he has no longer lives in the UK, claiming that he had been attacked and shut down by “the media, government and judiciary”.

A report by The Times claimed that Brand now lives in Florida. That came shortly after the BBC apologised to employees who felt unable to speak up about his alleged misconduct.
