Rod Stewart has thrown his global superstardom behind a little-known Scottish football club. The Celtic-mad musician pledged financial support to Glasgow Perthshire FC, a small team from the north of the city, after hearing a fan’s music at Parkhead.

And it’s hoped having the veteran crooner on side will lead to a much-needed boost for the Possilpark club, who are currently mid-table in the lower reaches of the West of Scotland Football League and operating on a shoestring budget.Shire’s Vice President, Paul McLaughlin, said: “It is great news for everyone at the club to have someone so famous who is interested football to be involved.“Rod’s keen to support football at grass roots level and it’s why he was so happy to get involved with
