Poland are ready to rest star man Robert Lewandowski for Thursday's friendly against Scotland. The Bayern Munich star has bagged an astonishing 50 goals in 33 appearances for club and country this season.

But the Poles are reluctant to risk him at Hampden as they prepare for a World Cup play-off final against either Sweden or Czech Republic.

With Russia suspended from competing amid Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, Poland were given a bye to the final.Last year, Lewandowski suffered an injury against Andorra which ruled him out of playing against England in the World Cup qualifiers. And the 33-year-old accepts he may have to reluctantly sit out a return to Hampden - where he netted twice, including with the last kick of the ball, which ended Scotland's hopes of reaching Euro 2016 - on his last visit. He said: "I am a competitor who is ambitious about many things and I always want to take an active part in it.

I am always willing and ready to play."But recently, an accidental injury prevented me from playing against England, so I think it will be a decision for the manager."The manager's plan for the match is the most important thing." But former Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski, now a pundit in his Polish homeland, reckons there is no chance new manager Czesław Michniewicz will risk him in Glasgow.
