Millions of motorists have a safety feature in their cars that they know nothing about. Drivers are being urged to look out for for a button in their motor that could save their life.
Introduced four years ago yesterday, new driving legislation meant that all new cars and vans are required to have an emergency call system known as eCall.
The systems includes an SOS button that is fitted within the vehicle, reports Manchester Evening News.It means that if a car's airbags are trigger following a crash, sensors will automatically alert emergency services via the eCall system. The system sends the vehicle's location to 999 operators and allows the driver to speak to emergency operators.
Providing precise coordinates, the eCall systems directs emergency services to the exact location of the vehicle, meaning that help can arrive much quicker.
