Firefighters have begun a second day at the scene of a blaze at a former hotel in Wigan. Crews were called out to Bolton Road, in Ashton-in-Makerfield, shortly before 7pm last night (January 23) after a fire broke out at the derelict former Rockleigh Hotel.

A stretch of Bolton Road, between Edward Drive and the Esso fuel station, remains closed in both directions this morning (Wednesday) while emergency services are at the scene.

Four fire engines scrambled to the blaze last night. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "I was working and then I could smell the smoke.

I came outside and that’s when I saw the fire and the wind was blowing smoke my way. It was massive." Try MEN Premium now for FREE...
