River Plate's director of football has claimed that there is no truth to the rumour regarding Edinson Cavani joining the club at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan's contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the summer and following his injuries and increasing age, the 35-year-old is expected to leave the club.
A move to South America was thought to be likely with River Plate looking to be a potential destination. However, Enzo Francescoli has since rubbished the rumours entirely.
He told Supermite: "I never spoke with Cavani. There were no negotiations at all." ALSO READ: Paul Merson names two Man United stars who should be dropped for Man City derby In his Guardian column earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano also quashed any chances of Cavani joining the Argentine outfit.
