The risk of a terror attack in the UK is rising according to a new report as the government has confirmed its commitment to Martyn's Law.

The Home Office counter-terrorism strategy Contest has been updated for the first time in five years, with the report finding that domestic plotters are harder to detect, a persistent threat from Islamist extremists and advances in technology being exploited.

Since it was last updated in 2018, there have been nine declared terrorist attacks in the UK in which six people were killed and 20 injured. Home Secretary Suella Braverman said in a speech on Tuesday (July 18) that attackers are becoming 'increasingly unpredictable' and that such threats have become 'more diverse, dynamic and complex'.

She said 39 plots had been foiled since 2017 - a period that has seen 15 attacks carried out - praising the work of the security services.
