Violence erupted on Bonfire Night in Niddrie, with riot police reportedly coming under fire from a barrage of fireworks. As the evening's disorder intensified, specialist officers were deployed - tasked with preventing chaos akin to last year's.

Shortly before 9.30pm, a formation of riot officers equipped with helmets and shields were said to have been targeted by individuals shooting fireworks, who then dispersed into the adjacent housing area.

Journalist Iona Young tweeted: "There was a barricade of riot police before the shower of rockets were fired at them but they were gone when it stopped and the group stormed towards Craigmillar."
