A pensioner who was a social worker for Manchester council has been arrested amid a major historic child sexual exploitation investigation.

Officers arrested the 77-year-old man at a property in Chadderton, Oldham, on Thursday morning (February 6). He was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault and taken to custody for questioning.

The arrest is in connection with an alleged offence which dates back to 1994. At the time, the suspect worked as a social worker for Manchester council.

Greater Manchester Police says the man has since retired and is no longer in a position of trust. His arrest is the latest as part of Operation Green Jacket, which is investigating historic offending against vulnerable young people in south Manchester, mostly in the early 2000s.
