Two British girls, including a baby, have been rescued after being discovered "abandoned" in a vehicle on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
Local police in Arona reported that the children were found after a passer-by spotted a white Volkswagen Polo rental car parked in direct sunlight in Las Galletas, which is just an hour from where authorities are searching for missing British teenager Jay Slater.
The 34 year old local resident noticed the two girls inside the car with its windows shut. According to the police, the older girl, aged seven, explained that their father had left them while he went for a haircut at a nearby shopping centre, but they were reluctant to leave the car despite being able to unlock it from the inside.
After the woman alerted emergency services, officers attempted to locate the father in the shopping centre, having found items linked to him in the car, including a bag with yoghurts and juices, once the girls allowed them access to the vehicle, reports the Daily Star.
