A Bridge of Weir councillor has blasted the lack of action from Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Water on a high-risk flood road.

Councillor James MacLaren, who represents Bridge of Weir, Bishopton and Langbank, says he has reported issues on the stretch of road for years – but no permanent solution has been delivered.

The Scottish Conservative councillor is demanding urgent action” to tackle drainage and flooding issues on the A761 approaching Bridge of Weir.He says that, with winter fast approaching, a failure from Scottish Water to fix these problems has the potential to cause “carnage” on the road for motorists.Councillor MacLaren also says that the council’s roads department has identified the issue is with a burst pipe, and that Scottish Water has been notified but the organisation has failed to lay out a timescale for the works to be carried out.“This stretch of road has repeatedly suffered with flooding and drainage issues,” he said. “I have reported issues to the council for years but still no solution has been delivered.

That is simply not good enough given that Scottish Water has been notified of these problems.Renfrewshire Live, the new free app dedicated to bringing you around the clock breaking news, is now available to download.Powered by the Paisley Daily Express, Renfrewshire Live is your go-to source for news, features and sport with live coverage provided direct to the app, seven days a week. The dedicated team of experienced journalists, responsible for the publication of the award-winning Express, will focus on breaking news, day and night, across Renfrewshire’s towns and villages. There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.
