A record number of Brits took part in Dry January last month - with charities warning the pandemic has caused a huge spike in problem drinkers.

Alcohol Change UK said nearly seven million Britons backed their campaign to quit drinking last month - a huge rise from last year's four million.

Participants have been forced to re-evaluate their drinking habits as a last resort following a spike in problem drinking last year.

New Office of National Statistics figures show that deaths caused by alcohol hit a new high during the first nine months of 2020.
