The couple have had an on-and-off romance over the years. Leanne and Nick first married in January 1998. They eloped to Gretna Green in Scotland due to their ages and it being legal to tie the knot across the border at the time.
They then broke the news to a horrified Gail before they rented a room off Ashley Peacock at number 4 Coronation Street determined to prove they had made the right decision.
Various strains on their marriage over the next year - including accusations of cheating and the loss of a baby - ended in Leanne telling Nick she no longer loved him and so he returned to Canada alone in 1999.
