Mauricio Pochettino admits it was a "mistake" not to start Xavi Simons in Paris Saint-Germain 's clash with Lyon last weekend.

And the boss has now dropped a major hint that he could be set to play a key role in the weeks ahead. Dutch sensation Simons has been heavily linked with a move away from Paris and Rangers, managed by his countryman Gio van Bronckhorst, are one of the clubs who have been mooted as a potential temporary destination.

Reports in France previously suggested the 18-year-old was unhappy with his game-time and issued PSG with an ultimatum over his future. It initially appeared they had snubbed his demands for more first-team football, but Simons emerged from the bench against Lyon for his first Ligue 1 appearance of the season and had a hand in Thilo Kehrer's equaliser. After the game, Pochettino raved about his performances and admitted it was a "mistake" not to start Simons and exciting young teammate Edouard Michut - who also came off the bench."There you have a good point, it was a mistake not to start with these players," he said of the duo."When they were on the pitch, we had a lot more movement, aggression and purpose in our game.

I certainly liked that.”Now, speaking ahead of their home clash with Brest on Saturday, Pochettino has hinted the club's youngsters will have a big part to play in the weeks ahead.Get all the latest Rangers news sent straight to your Inbox every day by signing up to our newsletter. We cover every morsel of information regarding your favourite club in the form of articles, videos and podcasts. The newsletter will arrive every day at 12pm, giving you a round up of the best stories we've covered that in the last 24 hours. To sign up, simply enter your email address into the
