Neil Lennon

Neil Francis Lennon (born 25 June 1971) is a Northern Irish football coach and former player who is the manager of Scottish Premiership club Celtic. During his playing career he represented English clubs Manchester City, Crewe Alexandra and Leicester City.

Lennon moved to Scottish club Celtic in 2000, where he made over 200 appearances and was appointed captain in 2005. Before retiring as a player, he returned to England and played for Nottingham Forest and Wycombe Wanderers. Lennon made 40 appearances for Northern Ireland in nine years, scoring two goals. Lennon was appointed manager of Celtic in March 2010, initially in a caretaker capacity after the departure of Tony Mowbray.

Jermain Defoe marked his 800th senior appearance with the 302nd goal of his stellar career at Dingwall on Sunday. And with despair as a couple of hours later Neil Lennon was pushed ever closer to the Parkhead exit door with a draw against St Johnstone that once again saw fans demanding he be sacked.

Lomas was in the Northern Ireland side on the night Lennon made his international debut against Mexico in June 1994, just as six years later he lined up for West Ham when Defoe made the first of those 800 appearances, coming off the bench to score against Walsall in the League Cup.

The former Saints boss insists he’s not surprised that 20 years later Defoe is continuing to defy time – and he isn’t shocked Lennon is under pressure either,.
