The late Queen Elizabeth had preferred Princess Diana to marry Andrew instead of Charles due to "two reservations", according to royal author Ingrid Seward.
Her book, My Mother And I, shares that just a month before Diana's royal wedding to Charles, she was invited to Windsor Castle for a party celebrating Andrew's 21st birthday.
During the party, Diana wanted to spend time with Charles and dance together, but he didn't seem interested. The book claims that footman Mark Simpson later saw Diana in the castle quadrangle, looking tired and lost in thought, yet still moving slowly to some tune in her head.
According to the book, Diana left the castle around 5.30am and went to her father's home, where she told him she no longer wanted to marry Charles.
