Queen Elizabeth II has postponed a diplomatic reception she was due to host in the coming days at the advice of the country's Foreign Office.Their advice comes in the wake of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.The Diplomatic Reception, which takes place annually, involves the Queen and other members of the Royal Family welcoming over hundreds of the Diplomatic Corps, often in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.
In a statement, the palace explained: "The Queen has accepted the Foreign Secretary’s advice that the Diplomatic Reception at Windsor on Wednesday 2nd March should be postponed." Wednesday's event was set to be held at Windsor Castle.
The move comes after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge issued a statement earlier today, Saturday 26 February, expressing their support for Ukraine and its people.
The royal couple wrote on Twitter: "In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future. "Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future.
