Pupils at Lanarkshire school take part in global warming and community spring clean projects

Pupils at a Lanarkshire school were in an energetic mood to improve the environment and tidy up their community.The Buchanan High youngsters took part in Engineering Development Trust (EDT) backed events and a spring clean project.EDT is an engineering education charity that runs the Industrial Cadet Bronze award as part of their promotion of STEM subjects in schools.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

They had to research how the school can "become circular, reusing, recycling and reducing waste".A Buchanan High spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live: "The idea is that global warming has caused sea levels to rise and the school became its own island."The class looked at renewable energy, how to get clean water supplies and how to recycle materials."They chose to build a model to include windfarms, and a school made of insulating materials and heated by solar power."The pupils also made bikes for them to cycle on and produce electricity, and a secret underwater tunnel to trade with other islands."Everyone involved had a really fun, informative time."And S1-S3 youngsters were involved in a spring clean project to tidy up the school environment.They collected litter in the community,
