Prince Harry's former best mate has stoked the flames of speculation about a deep rift after joining forces with Meghan Markle's avowed nemesis, Jeremy Clarkson. The ex-Top Gear presenter became the centre of controversy in 2022 following his scathing piece in The Sun, where he viciously expressed his disdain for the Duchess of Sussex.
In his column, Clarkson infamously voiced his desire to see Meghan paraded naked through the streets, a comment that was subsequently condemned as sexist by the press watchdog. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex denounced the piece, which was later pulled by The Sun, accusing it of propagating "hate rhetoric" along with "dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny".
Yet, it appears one of Prince Harry's closest pals has swapped sides, as he was seen on an episode of Clarkson's hit Amazon Prime series, Clarkson's Farm.Hugh van Cutsem, a long-time friend to both Harry and Prince William since their youth, featured in the seventh episode of the series deer stalking with Clarkson, hinting that the 49-year-old is yet another companion who's had a fallout with the Royal.
The father of Hugh, who shares his name, was a long-time friend of King Charles. Both men were alumni of the University of Cambridge, dating back to the 1960s, reports the Mirror.Their firm friendship cascaded down to their offspring, leading to Prince William serving as a senior usher at Hugh's nuptials to Rose Astor in 2005, and becoming godfather to their daughter Grace, who had the honour of being one of Kate Middletons bridesmaids during her 2011 wedding.
