Prince Harry 'begged' for royal announcement to be delayed

According to Endgame author Omid Scobie, Prince Harry begged his family to delay releasing a significant announcement.The sad news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's death was shared with the world at 6.30pm on the fateful day of September 8, 2022 – just before Harry was able to land in an Aberdeen airport and journey to Balmoral.

Scobie writes in his book that Buckingham Palace had initially planned to issue a statement earlier but delayed at Harry's heartfelt request.The late Queen's grandson wished to be united with his relatives before the public were informed, but adverse weather conditions meant his flight had to circle above, causing a delay.

Yet despite reports that he appealed for the news to be kept private for longer, the Palace went ahead with the declaration of the Queen's passing. "When Harry's plane finally touched tarmac 20 minutes later, he received a text from Meghan urging him to call ASAP followed by a breaking news alert via the BBC News app with the announcement of the Queen's death," writes Scobie.

It was later confirmed by a spokesperson for King Charles III: "The public was only informed after every family member had been informed."
