A popular Ayr pub has announced its shock closure with a 'heavy heart'.The Ship Inn will pour its last pint at the end of the month. The North Harbour Street watering hole has been a huge favourite amongst Ayr United fans down the years, with supporters buses frequently leaving from the boozer to head on away trips. And it was also a renowned live music venue with many a band taking to the stage during the pub's busier days. But owner Simon Kenny has now called time on the historic pub after four years at the helm.
The post-Covid era and rising business costs have combined to make life tougher for once-popular pubs like The Ship to thrive.A message on the boozer's Facebook reads: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to announce that The Ship Inn Ayr will be closing its doors for the final time on Sunday, April 30."We have had a great four years but now it is time to move on.
Thank you for all your support. Simon." Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter here
