Police have surrounded a major Greater Manchester museum after a 'gun' was seen in the area. Officers were called out to the Imperial War Museum North in Trafford, opposite Salford Quays, at around 1pm this afternoon (June 21).
Greater Manchester Police says it responded to reports of a firearm being found in the surrounding area. The item has since been found and confirmed to be a BB gun.
Images from the scene show several police cars and vans parked up on roads surrounding the museum. Pavements between the museum and the Manchester Ship Canal were taped off by officers. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News the area was 'swarming with armed police' earlier this afternoon. Officers do not believe there is a wider risk to the public following the incident.
