Police were called to Shaw Hall Sub Post Office on Talbot Road at about 11am. Two men reportedly entered the premises, one of them brandishing a knife.
They fled the scene empty-handed and there were no injuries reported. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed one man has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing.
