Police launch investigation after alleged spiking in Parliament bar

A woman has allegedly been 'spiked' in Strangers Bar in the Houses of Parliament. Police are now investigating the incident which reportedly happened on last Tuesday, the first week back after the Christmas recess.

The woman, a parliamentary researcher, reportedly alerted bar and security staff, saying that her drink had been tampered with in the bar, which is frequented by MPs, staffers, and journalists, according to Politico which reported the story.

Police have said that investigations into the incident are "ongoing" and that there have been "no arrests at this stage", the Mirror reports.

Parliamentary officials have said that they are taking the report extremely seriously. A UK Parliament spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident which took place on the parliamentary estate in early January, which was reported to parliamentary security and is now being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Service.” A Met spokeswoman: "Police received reports of an alleged spiking at an establishment in the House of Commons, on Tuesday, 7 January at around 18:30hrs.
