Police have issued a full statement after a Coronation Street star was hit by a historical sex claim as he prepared for a comeback on the show.

Sean Wilson starred as Martin Platt from 1985 to 2005, before returning to ITV's famous cobbles for a brief spell in 2018. He had been due to reunite with the cast again this year when former on-screen wife Gail, played by Helen Worth, left the series.

But it was announced in September Sean would not be returning to the show, with ITV citing 'personal reasons'. Over the weekend, the actor revealed how his 'world was blown apart' by an allegation of indecent assault dating back 27 years.

He told The Sun on Sunday that he received an email in August from Corrie bosses about the allegation, before attending a voluntary interview at Longsight police station on October 25.
