Police detail 4am swoop on £150,000 Kilmarnock cannabis farm on high street

Seven men have been charged after a large cannabis farm worth £150,000 was busted in Kilmarnock town centre yesterday.Police swooped on a derelict building on King Street around 4am on Thursday morning after suspicious activity was spotted in the area.

Officers locked down the main shopping thoroughfare throughout Thursday morning as they launched an investigation into the drugs haul.Scottish Fire and Rescue have also confirmed they were in attendance and that a water rescue team were called, but were stood down.Forensic officers were spotted at the scene several hours later as they entered a side door carrying out black holdalls and clear bags.Today police have confirmed that seven men have been arrested and charged in connection with the grow operation.

The ages of the men at this stage are unknown.The total value of the cultivation is still not known with enquiries ongoing, however police say the total value of plants seized have an estimated value of up to £150,000.

The men are due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court today. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Seven men have been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery of a large cannabis cultivation within a derelict building in King Street, Kilmarnock."Officers made the discovery after being called to a report of suspicious activity in the area around 4am on Thursday, March 7, 2024."Enquiries are ongoing to confirm the total value of the recovery however the plants found within the building have an estimated street value of up to £150,000."The seven men are due to appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, 8 March, 2024, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."A
