Police cordon off street after 'grenade' found

Bomb disposal crews were deployed to Gorton following reports that a grenade had been found. Police and fire crews rushed to Abbey Hey Lane.

Responders quickly set up a cordon on the street, with police cars and fire engines present at the scene. A technical rescue unit was also deployed.

An eyewitness described seeing "lots of police" and a "bomb squad" arriving at the scene. They claimed they also saw larger fire engines as well.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 5.15pm on Saturday 25 January, fire crews were called to assist with an incident on Abbey Hey Lane, Manchester.
