Police have fired a warning to families after children were spotted 'messing around' on two Greater Manchester motorways. Officers fear youths are risking their lives after being seen walking by the M60 near Middleton and the A627M near Rochdale.
Greater Manchester Police says the spate of reports is 'extremely concerning'. However, on each occasion officers have been called out about the issue over the past week, the youngsters had already moved on.
GMP is now urging parents and guardians to speak to their children about the dangers of walking alongside motorways. In a Facebook post this morning (March 15), a GMP Rochdale spokesperson asks: "Do you know where your children are?" READ MORE: Shock in Greater Manchester town after sudden death of man on quiet street The post continues: "We have been made aware that over the last week or so children have been walking along the hard shoulder and messing around on the wrong side of the motorway bridge. "Reports have come in for youths on the M60 between Junction 20 to 19 and also on the A627M between Junction 3 and 2, however when police have attended the youths had already moved on. "Needless to say this is extremely concerning, these children are not only putting their lives at risk but also the lives of motorists passing them. "We cannot stress enough the danger these youths are putting themselves and motorists in, it is imperative parents/guardians/schools discuss the importance of staying away from the motorway network with their children/students."
