A man has been arrested after a police officer was attacked in the early hours of this morning. Officers stopped a car being 'driven dangerously' on Platting Road in the Saddleworth area of Oldham just after 12.30am on Friday (March 29).
Police 'engaged with the occupants' but an officer was assaulted. A man - aged in his 20s - was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and assault of an emergency worker.
He remains in custody today for questioning. READ NEXT: Stop-and-search powers stepped up after stabbing as two arrested The arrest was carried out by officers in Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, who were out across the region last night and in the early hours ahead of the Easter Bank Holiday.
Inspector Danny Kabal said: "Our drivers are out day and night protecting the people of Greater Manchester from dangerous drivers and criminality. "Unfortunately one of our officers was injured during the incident, highlighting the dangers both officers and colleagues across emergency services often face when they are on-duty protecting our communities from harm.
