Channel 4’s Countdown came under fire when a contestant had used a seven-letter homophobic slur that had not been edited out of the broadcast.

Richard has since revealed that this would not have happened on the BBC and the competitors would have been asked to choose another response.During Monday night’s instalment of Countdown, contestants were given the letters A O O E D R P F T to form a word.Embarrassed by his choice of word, Matt Gould said: “I've got a rude word that I know is in the dictionary: P*****r.”Gould later admitted he assumed his answer would be edited out and subbed for a more appropriate word.Following the incident, Pointless star Richard, 50, reiterated that Matt had been embarrassed by his choice as he grinned while.
