Plumes of smoke seen for miles after fire breaks out at derelict building

Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles after a blaze broke out at a derelict building in Tameside. Fire crews raced to the scene on Club Street, off Ashton Old Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, at around 5.30pm on Tuesday (March 7).

It was confirmed the fire had broken out at a derelict club house. A number of fire engines attended the scene and spent around an hour dampening the flames.

Pictures shared with the Manchester Evening News show huge clouds of smoke seen overhead from Ashton Old Road. The grey plumes could be seen for miles. A number of fire personnel were still pictured at the scene two hours later at around 7.30pm once the fire had been safely put out.
