Plan for six apartments as part of Cloud 9 development after bulldozing 100-year-old house

A plan to demolish a detached 1920s house in order to replace it with a six apartments as part of a larger development known as ‘Cloud 9’ in Bowdon has been tabled.

The planning application is for an ‘apartment home’ on two plots at Bow Green Road. This follows approval of plans to also build two new semi-detached homes following the demolition of the 100-year-old house.

A design and access statement says that the proposal has been developed to ‘address Trafford’s acute and persistent housing supply shortfall’ as well as the significant need for ‘market affordable’ housing in the ‘upscale’ area of Bowdon, known for its affluent residents, including millionaires and professional footballers.

The statement cited a judgement from planning inspector Graham Chamberlain who mentioned the housing supply shortage in Trafford as a factor in approving a development. “The apartment building has been thoughtfully designed to emulate the appearance of a traditional home…with a strong focus on ovrall kerb appeal,” the statement said.
