Piers Morgan is the cocky, sometimes brutal face of journalism. I should know. I saw it often enough when he was my boss at the Mirror.
His work demands are extortionate. His self-belief is mountainous. He is impossible. But his instincts are sound. He has a bloodhound’s nose for humbug and the lies of politicians.
That’s why Boris Johnson was too frit to appear on GMB. He also has a killer streak that tempts him to go beyond the extra mile, and he can’t resist the temptation.
I reckon that’s why he went over the top with his trashing of Meghan’s story, with a dismissive “don’t believe a word of it.” He couldn’t know – none of us knows – whether the Duchess of Sussex was telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
