Former This Morning host Phillip Schofield has made a heartfelt apology to his co-star Holly Willoughby as he candidly admitted how much he regrets lying to his friend of 14 years about an affair he had with a younger This Morning staff member. The news first broke last week that Phil had engaged in an affair with a much younger staff member who worked as a runner on the ITV morning show, something which is said to have blindsided co-star Holly, who had been unaware of the relationship.

However, due to her close friendship with Phil, many members of the public have been quick to wrongly presume that she knew about the affair and had helped Phil to conceal it, something which he confirmed in an interview with The Sun, is incorrect.

He told the publication: “I’ve lost my best friend. I let her down (Holly). I let that entire show down. I let the viewers down. “Holly did not know (about the romance).

And she was one of the first texts that I sent, to say, ‘I am so, so sorry that I lied to you’. “She didn’t reply and I understand why she didn’t reply, as well.
