Peter McCloy revealed Steven Gerrard is not the first Liverpool legend to be flummoxed by the contrast in form of Rangers at home and abroad.Ibrox boss Gerrard may be scratching his head as his Jekyll and Hyde Gers excel in Europe but struggle to compete in domestic competition.However, McCloy admits Anfield icon Bill Shankly was just as perplexed at how Rangers could finish 16 points behind Celtic in the league in 1972 yet still triumph in the European Cup-Winners’ Cup.Shankly had no answer to that one as Rangers lost 4-3 at home to Dunfermline just a week after they defeated Bayern Munich, arguably the best side in the world at the time, 2-0 at Ibrox.
