A popular pet food brand, Northwest Naturals, has issued a voluntary recall of its "Turkey Recipe" raw frozen pet food after a cat tragically died from consuming the product contaminated with bird flu.The food in question has a whopping 98% turkey content including meat, organs, and bones, and was available across several US states like Washington, Arizona, Rhode Island, Georgia, Maryland, as well as in Canada and through select resellers here in the UK.
Following rigorous lab tests, it's been found that there was a "genetic" link between the H5N1 virus in the cat and the virus in the contaminated pet food.
Pet owners are urged to be vigilant for symptoms of bird flu in their pets, which can present as fever, lethargy, appetite loss, gastrointestinal distress, and even seizures.
