ITV police drama Grantchester may only be two episodes deep into its latest series, but already fans have been left reaching for the tissues after a nail-biting episode saw one fan favourite almost go down for murder! The second instalment of series eight kicked off with a bang on Thursday evening ( 18 January) and saw Reverend Will Davenport, played by Tom Brittney, accidentally kill someone while riding his motorcycle, a crime which very nearly saw him charged with murder. During the thrilling episode, fans were anxiously poised on the edge of their seats as they saw Will interrogated by the police over the incident and perhaps even facing a life behind bars! As the intense line of questioning took place - which even reduced Will to tears - fans of the show were quick to share their thoughts on social media, including their heartache at the thought of losing such a beloved character.

With the latest series of Grantchester now unfolding on our screens, fans of the popular detective series will no doubt be savouring every minute of star Tom Brittney ’s time on screen, before he departs the show at the end of Series 9. The 32 year old actor is best known for playing Reverend Will Davenport in the hit period series alongside co-star Robson Green, a role he has held since 2019. But sadly Tom has announced his intention to move onto pastures new at the end of the next series which is currently being filmed and is slated to air some time next year.

With ITV drama Grantchester back on our screens on Thursday 11 January, viewers will see detective duo DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Will Davenport attempt to solve a new bunch of murders. But alongside the two leads, played by Robson Green and Tom Brittney, a host of familiar faces from previous seasons will be returning. Among those is Charlotte Ritchie, who is known for playing Bonnie Evans.The niece of Cathy Keating, Bonnie was a widow and single mum to little Ernie, though tied the knot in series seven after meeting Will and the couple are now expecting their first child together.

Season eight of Grantchester returns tonight (Thursday, 11 January) as we welcome back the Cambridgeshire village and its crimes taking place during the 90s. One star of the show is Tom, 33, who took over the lead role of Reverend Will Davenport from James Norton back in 2019. He's become a fan favourite of the show solving crimes and keeping the village in order, but it was confirmed last year that Tom will hang up his vicar's cloak at the end of season nine.

Lead actor Tom Brittney has announced that the upcoming ninth season of the Masterpiece/ITV drama Grantchester will be his last.

Grantchester star Tom Brittney was pictured back on set of the hit period drama in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday.  The actor, 31, was seen filming scenes with co-star Robson Green, 57, and a baby, who is believed to play his stepson on the show. Tom and Robson were spotted at one point mucking around on set and throwing around a fake baby, which at times stood in for the bub, having a laugh in between takes.

ITV's hit mystery drama Grantchester is now into its seventh season, having first aired back in 2014. The show has proved a remarkable success, originally being adapted from the fiction novel "The Grantchester Mysteries" by James Runcie.

As season 7 of Grantchester commences tonight (March 11), we can't help but miss James Norton on our screens. Norton was the original vicar in the show and starred as Reverend Sidney Chamber for the first four seasons.
