A new royal book has revealed that Prince William was absolutely "insistent" on ensuring his mother-in-law Carole Middleton had a prominent role at King Charles' Coronation.

After becoming King following the tragic death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September, King Charles III is gearing up to be crowned during his coronation ceremony later this month. The historic event will take place on 6 May and will be the first coronation to take place in the country since the 1953 coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Lady Pamela Hicks, who was one of Queen Elizabeth II’s bridesmaids, has responded after recently finding out she would be left off the scaled-back guest list for King Charles III’s coronation next month.  "How very, very sensible," Pamela's daughter, India Hicks, wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday of her mother's reaction after receiving the call from the king’s personal secretary.  India noted her mother appreciated that the invitations were based on "meritocracy not aristocracy." She said Lady Pamela added, "I am going to follow with great interest the events of this new reign."  India continued, "The King was sending his great love and apologies, he was offending many family and friends with the reduced list. My mother was not offended at all."  She said it was explained that while Queen Elizabeth II had 8,000 guests at her coronation in 1953, Charles wanted to scale it back, "alleviating the burden on the state."  Lady Pamela is the daughter of Lord Mountbatten who was assassinated by the IRA in 1979 and a first cousin to Prince Philip.

As King Charles III steps into his new role over the coming days, he will be thinking daily of his mother and the astonishing way she fulfilled her duty over many decades. But his circumstances could not be more different to hers, with the Queen just 25 years old when her beloved father, King George VI, died after a battle with lung cancer. At the time, the Queen was in Kenya on a Commonwealth tour, but her exact reaction upon hearing of her father's death has since been revealed by Prince Philip's cousin Lady Pamela Hicks, who witnessed it.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is believed to have a huge budget of between £10 million and £15 million, and it'll take place this year to celebrate her 70th year on the throne.This is the first time in history that any monarch has been on the throne for that long.
