Oscar Piastri drops cryptic hint he's just weeks away from becoming F1 driver
Oscar Piastri has dropped a big hint about his future in Formula 1 in a cryptic post to Instagram. The reigning Formula 2 champion, who is yet to make his F1 debut, is currently serving as a reserve and test driver for Alpine, but with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon still contracted to the team until 2023 and 2024 respectively, the 21-year-old Aussie will have to be patient and bide his time. But according to The Race, Piastri is "closing in" on a move to Williams ahead of the 2023 season, with Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi's contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign. To stoke the flames even further, Piastri shared an image of the iconic Silverstone racetrack on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, captioning the post: "Driving here soon," suggesting he might not even have to wait until the end of the season to join the big leagues. The British Grand Prix, which takes place at Silverstone, gets underway next month, sparking rumours of a mid-season switch with Latifi - who has been struggling all year so far.According to The Herald Sun, Piastri also has a release clause in his current contract if he doesn't have a seat in Alpine's first team assured by the end of this month.Does Piastri have what it takes to become world champion one day? Fernando Alonso could 'replace Sebastian Vettel' at Aston Martin after Miami GP absence
Formula One season, rumours of changes on the grid are continuing to mount with the future of veterans Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel facing plenty of scrutiny.Spaniard Alonso is being tipped to leave Alpine to replace Vettel at Aston Martin, with Oscar Piastri the most likely to take the vacant spot at Alpine while Vettel could hang-up his driving gloves following an illustrious career that has seen him star with Ferrari and Red Bull.Alonso, in his second year back in F1, has encountered some bad luck this season with retirements in Saudi Arabia and Imola, while a hydraulic problem cost him a podium finish in Melbourne, while Vettel has struggled in the Aston Martin car - leading to growing speculation he could look to retire.Despite his impressive drives and standing within motorsport, Alonso's spot at Alpine isn't secure due to the rise of Formula 2 champion Piastri, who is a test driver for the French team and is unable to drive in F2 this season following his win - with manager Mark Webber not keen for him to remain on the sideline for another year.Alpine understandably do not want to lose Piastri and could allow Alonso to leave to free-up a seat, which could trigger a domino effect with Aston Martin snatching his services while Vettel could bring down the curtain on his career.

Nicolas Latifi's staggering net worth as Williams driver linked with F1 sacking
Formula One season is underway and, despite being just four races young, suggestions are emerging that indicate we could see the first driver change of 2022.Williams driver Nicholas Latifi has come under scrutiny yet again, with the Canadian being outperformed by teammate Alex Albon already - having been outshone in each of his two previous seasons by George Russell, which earned him a seat alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.Further adding to the pressure is the fact that Williams is no longer a family-run business, following the sale to Dorilton Capital, which brought around changes across the team structure including the appointment of Jost Capito who has been supportive of Latifi. In the end though, it's a results business and the fact that Latifi has also sustained a number of crashes, which are extremely expensive and provide a significant impact to the team's budget cap, the writing may well be on the wall with highly-rated Formula 2 champion Oscar Piastri touted for the seat.Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz has reported that Williams are looking at Piastri, who is a reserve driver for Alpine, as a potential option for a seat in 2023 but Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega has suggested 'shocking' changes are imminent for unnamed F1 teams - with a 'swap' on the cards, which may possibly refer to Alpine essentially loaning Piastri to Williams for a number of seasons. Criticism towards Latifi throughout his Formula 1 career has come from his alleged 'pay driver' status, referencing the fact that his father Michael Latifi is a billionaire who reportedly secured Williams a loan during the coronavirus pandemic, while his company Sofina Foods is also a sponsor of the team.
