Naman Ramachandran The inaugural London Action Festival (July 28-31) will open with a screening of “Die Hard,” with director John McTiernan and other guests in attendance at a Q&A. McTiernan’s “Predator” will also screen at the festival.

Henry Cavill is set to star in a live-action Voltron film for Amazon Studios.The forthcoming movie will be an adaptation of the American animated TV franchise, which itself was originally adapted from several Japanese anime series by Toei Animation.Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the main concept of the franchise centres around a team of space explorers who pilot a giant super robot.Cavill will join previously announced star Daniel Quinn-Toye, a film newcomer who appeared on the TV series Badults and served as Tom Holland’s understudy in Romeo & Juliet on the West End this earlier this year.The film will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who previously helmed the 2021 Netflix action film Red Notice, starring Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson, and 2018’s Skyscraper, which also starred Johnson.Cavill most recently made a cameo appearance as the Wolverine variant “Cavillrine” in Marvel‘s Deadpool and Wolverine. His other 2024 credits include Matthew Vaughan’s spy comedy Argylle and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.The actor is next set to star in Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot and Ritchie’s action adventure film In The Grey.

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video announced on Thursday that Sam Morril: You’ve Changed, its first comedy special from fast-rising New York comic Sam Morril, will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on July 9.

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has set a Halloween global premiere for Ralph Barbosa: Cowabunga, its first special from rising star comic Barbosa, which was shot in August as part of his ongoing North American tour. The hour-long special, taped at The Kessler Theater in Barbosa’s hometown of Dallas, TX, premieres globally on Tuesday, October 31st.

Netflix announced on Monday that A Woman’s Prayer, the first-ever comedy special from actor and comedian Kountry Wayne, will premiere on the platform September 19th.

EXCLUSIVE: Rotten Science has rounded out the cast for its first feature, Operation Taco Gary’s, enlisting Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek), Brenda Song (Dollface), Tony Cavalero (The Righteous Gemstones), Jason Biggs (American Pie), Doug Jones (Star Trek: Discovery) and Arturo Castro (The Menu) for roles opposite the previously announced Simon Rex.

Brent Lang Executive Editor Poppy Delevingne will star in “The Gun on Second Street,” a new drama from writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra.  The film is described as “an allegory of the gun crisis in the United States.” Its plot follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends who are called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street. This quickly escalates to a violent confrontation as Officer TJ Meadows III accidentally shoots and kills his partner, Officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun. Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatized, he moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to his partner’s widow, Kacie (Delevingne). They slowly fall in love as Kacie confronts the history she’s been avoiding, including telling her 15-year-old son, Ralph, TJ’s back-story.
