Babylon.The actor, who was previously attached to the film in an unknown role and as an executive producer, was revealed to be playing the silent film icon during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday (April 28).Early footage from Babylon was also shown during the event, described by Variety as a mix between Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood with “loud music, dazzling costumes and next-level makeup”.Babylon is a period drama set in the late 1920s during the film’s industry transition from silent films to talkies. Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie lead the cast as silent film stars John Gilbert and Clara Bow respectively, with Maguire as Chaplin in a supporting role.Other confirmed cast members include Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Samara Weaving (Ready Or Not), Jean Smart (Hacks), Li Jun Li (Wu Assassins) and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.Babylon marks Chazelle’s fifth feature film, following Guy And Madeline On A Park Bench, Whiplash, La La Land and 2018’s First Man starring Ryan Gosling.Maguire recently reprised his role of Spider-Man in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland.

The Berlin Film Festival is mired in fresh Israel-Gaza War controversy following a pro-Palestinian speech by Hong Kong filmmaker Jun Li over the weekend, which has prompted a police investigation and calls from one prominent politician for the festival to be defunded.

Set in Hong Kong, “Queerpanorama” revolves around a gay man who “impersonates men he has had sex with and brings this new persona with him to his next sex date.

New projects from Golden Horse Award winner Huang Ji, Indonesian actor-turned-director Reza Rahadian and US-Philippines actor and director Isabel Sandoval are among the 15 Works-in-Progress selected for this year’s Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF).

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent “Queerpanorama,” the latest feature by Hong Kong filmmaker Jun Li, has been boarded by Brussels-based sales company Best Friend Forever (“Universal Language”) ahead of its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Slated to bow in the Panorama section, the movie marks Li’s follow up to “Drifting” which premiered in competition at Rotterdam in 2021 and won best adapted screenplay at the Golden Horse Awards.

In a recent interview to promote his upcoming film, "Dune: Part Two," Bardem also touched on his other projects, including the untitled Formula 1 movie he's still filming with Pitt. The film, which Pitt is producing, was an opportunity for Bardem to learn more about the actor he's admired for a long time.
