English indie rock band xx’s songwriter, bassist, and vocalist Oliver Sim has revealed that he has been living with HIV since he was a teenager. Sim (32), disclosed that he was living with HIV in his newly released song ‘Hideous‘. Days after Blackpool FC striker Jake Daniels came out as gay, past historical homophobic tweets of his teammate Marvin Ekpiteta have resurfaced. Ekpiteta, 26, deleted the tweets and apologised to Daniels, who indicated that he has forgiven his teammate. On Monday, 17-year-old Daniels became the first openly gay footballer, since Justin Fashanu in 1990, to come out while still playing. Ekpiteta deleted the tweets and offered his apology.

In a historic first, a majority of local councils in Victoria raised the rainbow flag on Tuesday to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Discrimination Against Intersex People and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).According to the Victorian Pride Lobby, a record 68 of the 79 local councils in Victoria flew the rainbow flag “from town halls, libraries, and even courthouses”. During the October 2020 council elections, around 270 candidates had signed the Lobby’s Rainbow Pledge and made a commitment to support the issues of the LGBTQI+ community.“We’re proud to again be flying the rainbow pride flag today to mark IDAHOBIT day,” said Wellington Shire Council CEO David Morcom in a post on . “We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer with our people and the community at the heart of what we do. A new homophobic Russian reality show of course.Vitaly Milonov, a politician affiliated with the far-right United Russia party and best known for his extreme homophobic rhetoric, is presenting the new online series I’m Not Gay and was featured in the first episode.Milonov was the principal sponsor of Russia’s “Gay Propaganda Law,” which prohibits the distribution of pro-LGBTQ material. These materials are any which  “raises interest in…non-traditional sexual predispositions,” or  include “distorted ideas about the equal social value of traditional and non-traditional sexual relationships.”The show has eight men living together as they try and figure out which one is gay.

Tasmania was the last jurisdiction in Australia to decriminalise male same-sex relationships and on Sunday May 1, the LGBTQI community celebrated 25th anniversary of that historic event. Before the law was changed on May 1, 1997, any sexual relationship between men was illegal and punishable with 21 years in gaol. Tasmania was also the only state in Australia to outlaw crossdressing – the law was repealed in 2000. Governor Barbara Baker AC hosted a reception for LGBTQI activists at Government House on Sunday to mark the anniversary.

The “World’s Greatest Party Band” is taking its final bow following an upcoming US summer tour. The B-52s are calling it quits, capping off a 45 year long career, during which the band sold over 20 million albums and amassed three Grammy nominations.The new wave band, coined the “Kings of Kitsch” by Rolling Stone, is best known for hits such as Love Shack, Planet Claire, Rock Lobster, and My Own Private Idaho.Founding members Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider and Cindy Wilson are all returning for the tour. Fred Schneider said in a statement, “No one likes to throw a party more than we do, but after almost a half-century on the road, it’s time for one last blow-out with our friends and family… our fans. Out gay member of Australian parliament Tim Wilson said that his house had been targeted by vandals and not for the first time. Wilson is the Liberal candidate for the seat of Goldstein and lives with his husband Ryan Bolger in their Sandringham home.
