It posted a net loss of $329 million (versus $360 million in the year-earlier quarter), translating to an adjusted net loss of 1 cent per share. Wall Street analysts on average expected $1.01 billion in revenue and an adjusted loss of 1 cent per share, according to Refinitiv. Snap had previously told investors Q1 revenue could be down as much as 10% in the period.

The Snapchat parent is promoting Colleen DeCourcy to lead marketing at Snap, after she has served as chief creative officer since February 2022. Mitchell will officially depart Snap next month following the company’s NewFronts presentation on May 2. As Snap’s new head of marketing, DeCourcy will report directly to CEO Evan Spiegel. “Kenny is a dedicated, thoughtful and determined leader who has built our marketing team, helped us to launch countless products and created some of our most impactful campaigns, including ‘Real Friends’ and ‘Open Your Snapchat,'” Spiegel said in a statement. “Perhaps most importantly, he is a true team player and has worked tirelessly to support our team. I will sincerely miss working with Kenny.”

With the moves, Snap estimated it will save $500 million in cash expenses on an annualized basis relative to the second quarter of 2022. That includes a $50 million estimated reduction in fixed content costs with the elimination of Snap Originals. Shares of Snap were up 10% Wednesday in mid-morning trading on the restructuring news, but the stock price is still down more than 75% year to date.

James Murray, who announced his retirement from atop the Secret Service this week, will join Snap later this summer as chief security officer, the social media platform confirmed Thursday.
