Little Simz has joined forces with the Tate Modern and is set to curate an evening of Lates this month.Taking place on the last Saturday of the month (August 31), the collaboration will see the award-winning rapper, singer and actor take over the London gallery with a specially curated evening of music, workshops and conversations.It comes as part of the ongoing series of Tate Modern Lates offered by the art gallery, which gives visitors the opportunity to attend for a free evening of art, music, film and more, “where like-minded people can come together in the heart of London’s cultural landscape”.For one night only at the end of August, the exclusive night will be designed by Simz herself, and will also see her join broadcaster Clara Amfo to speak to visitors about her inspirations and her relationship with visual art.“I’m incredibly excited to be curating an evening at Tate Modern. It’s going to be really special,” the rapper said in a new statement.

Something quite extraordinary is taking shape in Manchester and is about to be unveiled at the huge new Aviva Studios venue. For hit 1990s movie The Matrix is being transformed into real life with a new world premiere show that opens this month.

Aviva Studios, Manchester’s landmark new cultural venue and home of Factory International, officially opens its doors on Wednesday, October 18 with ‘Free Your Mind’, a large-scale and immersive show based on the classic sci-fi film The Matrix.

Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle apparently did and is bringing that vision — titled “Free Your Mind” — to a Manchester arts venue, the new Factory International, in 2023.The Warner Bros. David Benedict There is an opera of “The Crucible.” Written by Robert Ward, it won the 1962 Pulitzer Prize. But this is not the opera… or is it? Lyndsey Turner’s grandiloquent National Theatre production of Arthur Miller’s imperishable 1953 classic is so overloaded with singing from the opening period-style choral folk song to a final major-key angelic chorus — not to mention a permanently portentous soundscape — that you could be forgiven for mistaking it for the opera. While some 69-year-old plays need dramaturgical assistance to be successfully revived, this is not one of them. Turner’s decision to “assist” the play is also there in her equally operatic visual response. In 2016, she and designer Es Devlin transformed the naturalism of Brian Friel’s masterpiece “Faith Healer” at the 250-seat Donmar Warehouse by encasing the three-sided stage with a curtain of pouring rain lit so that the water gleamed like a cage of hard, white light. It was a fitting metaphor for Friel’s fictional village. Now reused for “The Crucible” in the 1,029-seat Olivier amphitheater, opening and closing the play and punctuating the scene changes, it seems less metaphorical, more an over-displayed effect.

Theater Ventures-licensed project is set to debut next October at Factory International, a new arts venue in Manchester, U.K. The production, described as a “large-scale immersive performance,” will serve as the venue’s inaugural show. “Combining the hip-hop choreography of hundreds of dancers with the latest immersive design, ‘Free Your Mind’ will take audiences on a thrilling journey through ‘The Matrix’ and into a new realm of possibilities,” reads the logline.
