Michael Schneider Variety Editor at LargeStrong Studios has tapped Scott Weinstock to serve as exec VP of development and production, while Melissa Traub has joined as vice president of marketing and development. Both will report to Strong Studios president David Ozer, who announced the hires on Tuesday.Weinstock’s credits include serving as a senior producer, and later VP, executive creative director/supervising producer for the NBA, where he helped create “NBA Inside Stuff” and managed the league’s advertising and marketing campaigns while also helming much of the NBA’s internal and external creative branding efforts.

Under the deal, Strong Studios is aiming to get into the production services business in addition to its work developing content for film and TV (“Safehaven,” “Flagrant,” “Inside the Black Box”).

McKinley Franklin editor Strong Studios is set to develop a new crime series “Hall Mills Murders,” based on the chilling 1922 murder case that swarmed American culture, Variety has learned.  The eight-episode series will spotlight the murders of Edward Wheeler Hall, an N.J. priest, and Eleanor Millis, Hall’s mistress. Hall and Millis were found in the countryside, appearing to be cuddling in each other’s arms. However, it was quickly uncovered that the lovers were murdered, with their love notes shredded at their feet.  “We are thrilled to announce that the ‘Hall Mills Murders’ project will allow Strong Studios to significantly ramp up our production pipeline,” stated David Ozer, CEO of Strong Studios. “This sordid story and murder trial led to a three-ring media circus that is recognized to this day as the first of its kind in America to saturate news coverage on a daily basis. Peter White Television EditorAshton Kutcher’s unscripted series Going From Broke has been handed a second season by Crackle Plus as the AVOD service unveils its latest slate of originals.The digital platform is leaning heavily on scripted and non-scripted series from its sister company, Landmark Studio, which was set up by owner Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and former IDW Entertainment President David Ozer last year.The slate was announced as part of its NewFronts advertising presentation.Going From Broke, which the company said has scored 16M views, will return for a second ten-part run in the first quarter of 2021.
