Queen 'deeply' upset and had private 'despair' over royal divorces, expert claims
Queen was "deeply" upset by a series of divorces in the Royal Family, according to a new biography about The Firm.The 95-year-old saw three of her four children's marriages end in divorce, with sons Prince Andrew and Prince Charles as well as daughter Princess Anne all divorcing from their respective spouses.That makes Prince Edward the only child of Her Majesty's to stay married, and a new biography alleges the Queen found divorce talk "deeply upsetting".In his new book Queen of Our Times: The Life of Queen Elizabeth II, Robert Hardman writes: "Outwardly stoical, as ever, the queen was finding the divorce talks deeply upsetting."Hardman continued with claims that the Queen was also in "despair" over the three separate divorces.He wrote: "Another former member of the Household recalls that, every now and then, there would be a glimpse of her despair."A former palace staffer also revealed to Hardman that the Queen was "distressed" much more than she ever let on.They said: "I said, 'Ma'am, it seems to be happening everywhere. This is almost common practice,'" before adding "But she just said, 'Three out of four.' in sheer sadness and exasperation.
