McKinley Franklin editor Emma Stone is reviving more than just her Hollywood presence in the first official trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie, “Poor Things.” The upcoming film is a story of “love, discovery and scientific daring” set in the Victorian era, based on an adaptation of Alasdair Grey’s novel of the same name. Stone plays Belle Baxter, a Frankenstein-like woman who is brought back to life after her brain is replaced with that of her unborn child. Stone stars opposite Willem Dafoe, who plays the brilliant, yet unorthodox, scientist who resurrects Belle from the dead. Her ghostly pale skin in the trailer hints at her character’s predeceased origins.

ITVX Comedy Series ‘The Dry’ Extended for Second Season – Global Bulletin

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief ITV has commissioned a second season of the comedy-drama series “The Dry” for ITVX. It will be produced by Element Pictures (part of Fremantle), in association with Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland and ITV Studios, in partnership with RTÉ. Nancy Harris (Dates) and acclaimed director Paddy Breathnach (Viva, Rosie) will return to helm the second season, which will stream exclusively on ITVX next year. The first season was made available to view for free on the streamer last month. With the story picking up seven months after the end of the first, Roisin Gallagher will return as recovering alcoholic Shiv Sheridan, alongside regular cast members from the first series. Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Hong Chau has joined the cast of the anticipated new film from “The Favourite” and “The Lobster” director Yorgos Lanthimos. Chau, who has been prolific in recent years, joins a stacked ensemble featuring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Plot details are (frustratingly) under wraps from the Greek master of subversion, who has also given us “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” Lanthimos directs from a script he wrote with Efthimis Filippou (reuniting after both “Lobster” and “Sacred Deer”). Searchlight Pictures is financing and distributing the project with Element Pictures and Film4. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element, Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos are producing. Principal photography begins this month in Chau’s native New Orleans.

‘Normal People’ Producer Element Pictures Taps Christopher Aird as Creative Director

K.J. Yossman Fremantle-owned Element Pictures, the production house behind projects including “Normal People” and “The Favourite,” have appointed Christopher Aird as their new creative director. Aird, who comes from Two Brothers Pictures, where he was head of drama, was appointed by Element founders and co-CEOs Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe. He will take up the position, based at Element’s London office, in Jan. 2023 where he will be responsible for managing the development and production slate across both television and film. He will also executive produce selected projects and manage the editorial team.

The deal represents continued investment in European drama from Fremantle, which is owned by Germany’s RTL Group.
