Rap Sh!t, the comedy series from Issa Rae, is officially getting a second season.

For music supervisors Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, that meant pulling together a soundtrack of artists that not only reflected Miami’s rap scene but also the strong ties between its main characters. In the Max show, Shawna (Aida Osman, also a writer on the series) has been chasing fame as a solo rapper, and she reunites with her friend Mia (rapper Kamillion) to form a rap duo. Together they navigate success, friendship and the lively city of Miami. Here, Bromberg and Pierre break down key needle drops in the series and how they spent months trying to clear a Drake song, as well as having to change an original song at the last minute due to clearance issues.

HBO Max has renewed the comedy series Rap Sh!t from Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae for a second season. The eight-episode first season debuted in July and is currently available on the streamer.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter “Rap Sh!t” has been renewed for Season 2 at HBO Max. The eight-episode first season of the comedy series originally debuted on the streaming service back in July. The show follows estranged Miami high school friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) who reunite and form a group. “We’re so happy to play in the world of ‘Rap Sh!t’ for another season with this incredibly talented team,” said series creator and executive producer Issa Rae. The first season also starred Jonica Booth, Devon Terrell and RJ Cyler. Rae executive produces under her Hoorae banner, which has an overall deal with WarnerMedia. Syreeta Singleton serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Singleton also having co-wrote the Season 1 finale with Rae. Montrel McKay of Hoorae also executive produces with Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment. Yung Miami and JT of City Girls serve as co-executive producers, along with Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas for Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi for Hoorae. Rae’s audio content company, Raedio, handles music supervision for the series.

Selome Hailu The process behind “Seduce & Scheme” was heavy on the scheming. “We snuck in the writers room and the studio when they were having the sessions for the soundtrack. We wasn’t even supposed to be in there!” says KaMillion, who plays Mia in the Issa Rae-created comedy series “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max. The series follows Mia and Shawna (Aida Osman), friends from high school who reunite years down the line and form a rap duo that quickly skyrockets to notoriety — at least on the internet. To create the original songs that Shawna and Mia perform, as well as the soundtrack that pays major homage to the show’s Miami setting, Rae’s music company Raedio held “camps” where different rappers and songwriters came together to collaborate.

Angelique Jackson CAA has signed writer-director Sadé Clacken Joseph, who most recently directed two episodes of Issa Rae’s “Rap Sh!t,” for representation.The HBO Max comedy series stars Aida Osman, KaMillion, Jonica Booth and RJ Cyler, with Syreeta Singleton as showrunner. Joseph helmed the pilot and second episode, titled “Something for the City” and “Something for the Girls” respectively.

Angelique Jackson Issa Rae’s Hoorae media company has expanded its ranks, hiring new executives Sarah Al-Qatou and Gaby McCormick, and announcing the promotion of Jax Clark.All three executives will report to Sara Rastogi, EVP of development and production at Hoorae. News of the executive expansion comes as Hoorae celebrates the launch of the HBO Max series “Rap Sh!t,” created by Rae.
