People with dementia could get up to £608 every month from the DWP

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit many people have heard of or read about, but may not be sure who it can help or how to apply, especially if it's for a loved one or family member with a cognitive condition.

The biggest misunderstanding around PIP is that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will only award the benefit to people with outwardly visible physical, long-term health conditions or disabilities.

However, PIP is a benefit aimed at providing support for people with an ever-evolving list of 'hidden' conditions, including dementia.

The latest figures from the DWP show that by the end of April 2021 more than 2.7 million people across the UK were receiving PIP.
