Peacock Orders Crime Drama From ‘Beef’ Writer, Josh & Benny Safdie, A24

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Peacock has given out a series order to a crime drama currently titled “Superfakes,” Variety has learned.

The series hails from creator Alice Ju, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts.

Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush also executive produce. A24 and UCP will produce. Per the official logline, “Superfakes” is said to follow “a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.” Ju previously won an Emmy as part of the producing team behind the hit Netflix series “Beef,” on which she was a writer and co-executive producer.

Ju also served as a writer and consulting producer on the popular Peacock series “Poker Face” starring Natasha Lyonne, whom she also worked with on the Netflix series “Russian Doll.” Ju’s other credits include “The Other Two” and “Fantasmas.” She is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
